General Questions
Once your wearable arrives, you can set it up using the mobile app in just a few simple steps. The setup page will guide you through pairing the device, linking your payment card, and customizing any preferences.
Each Astari wearable contains a passive NFC chip, which means it only activates when held near a payment terminal. It has no battery, Bluetooth, or wireless connection — so it can’t be tracked, and it never transmits data on its own. This makes the setup process fast, secure, and fully under your control.
Need help along the way? Our support team is always ready to assist. For detailed setup instructions, visit our setup page.
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a wireless technology that enables secure, contactless data exchange between two devices — but only when they’re held very close together, usually within a few centimeters.
That limited range makes it ideal for payments, as it reduces the risk of unauthorized access or interception. Unlike Bluetooth, NFC doesn’t broadcast over long distances and doesn’t require pairing or a power source to function.
Astari wearables use passive NFC chips, which means they don’t contain a battery and don’t emit any signals on their own. They’re activated only when held near an NFC-enabled terminal — like the ones used for contactless card payments.
It’s a simple, safe, and energy-free way to make fast, secure transactions.

Your Astari wearable works with any smartphone that has NFC functionality, which includes almost all modern Android and iOS devices.
The best part? You only need your phone once — during the initial setup. After that, your wearable operates independently for payments. There’s no need to carry your phone or stay connected for it to work.
If you’re not sure whether your phone supports NFC, you can usually find this information in your device settings or on the manufacturer’s website.
For step-by-step setup instructions, check out our blog on how to connect payment to your Astari wearable.
You can link your Astari wearable directly to several EU banks listed on our supported banks page
If your bank isn’t listed, you can use the free Curve app to connect almost any EEA card, including Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards. Curve acts as a smart wallet, allowing you to manage multiple cards, switch between them before or after a payment, and view your transaction history — all in one place.
For a detailed step-by-step guide, visit our setup page.
No, Astari wearables never need charging.
They work using passive NFC technology, which means they’re powered by the payment terminal itself during a transaction. There’s no battery inside, so you don’t need to worry about cables, chargers, or running out of power.
Even if your phone is dead or nowhere nearby, your wearable is still ready to pay. It’s designed to be simple, reliable, and maintenance-free — exactly how a payment device should be.

No, the wearable itself does not expire.
What does have a limited lifespan is the payment token that’s linked to your wearable during setup. These tokens typically last about 3 years, depending on the card provider.
When the token expires, you can simply remove it in the app and reconnect your card. This generates a new token and gives you another 3–4 years of use — at no extra cost.
You can repeat this process as often as needed. As long as you renew the token, your Astari wearable will continue working without interruption.
For more information, check out our blog on how to connect payment to your Astari wearable.
Yes, all Astari wearables are fully waterproof and designed for everyday life.
You can wear them while washing your hands, showering, swimming, or even in the rain without any problem. The internal NFC chip is sealed inside the wearable with no moving parts or battery, so there’s nothing to short-circuit or damage from water exposure.
That said, while they’re built to handle water, we still recommend avoiding high-pressure environments like diving or saunas for prolonged durability — just like you would with most jewelry.
Whether you’re heading to the gym, the pool, or just going about your day, your Astari wearable is ready to go wherever you are.
Yes, you can connect multiple Astari wearables to your account, and even link the same payment card to more than one device.
This is especially useful if you like to switch between different styles (for example, a ring during the day and a bracelet at the gym) or simply want a backup wearable. Each device is treated independently, so you can manage, rename, or remove them individually using the app.
Keep in mind: while multiple wearables can use the same card, each one will have its own token, which you can refresh or remove at any time. If you ever lose a wearable, you can temporarily lock just that device without affecting the others.
The Payment Process
Making a payment is as simple as using a contactless card. Hold your Astari wearable close to the NFC-enabled payment terminal until you hear a beep or see a confirmation message. The payment will be automatically deducted from the linked card or account.
Tip: If you have multiple cards linked via the Curve app, you can choose which card to use directly from the app—even after a payment is made. For best practices, see our guide on how to pay with passive payment wearables.
Your Astari wearable follows the same PIN rules and spending limits as a standard contactless card.
In most countries, payments under a certain amount (like €50 in the EU or £100 in the UK) don’t require a PIN. However, you’ll be asked to enter a PIN in the following situations:
- If a single transaction exceeds your contactless limit.
- If you’ve made several small payments in a row that collectively reach the cumulative limit set by your bank or card provider.
This is a standard security feature designed to prevent misuse.
The PIN you enter depends on how your wearable is linked:
- If your card is directly linked, you’ll be asked to enter your normal card PIN at the terminal.
- If your card is connected via the Curve app, you’ll be asked to enter your Curve PIN instead. You can view or manage this PIN anytime in the Curve app settings.
No, you don’t need your phone nearby to make payments. Once you’ve completed the initial setup, you can pay directly with the wearable—no phone or app required.
Simply hold your wearable close to an NFC-enabled payment terminal and enter your PIN code if prompted. Payments are processed just like a contactless card transaction, making it perfect for situations where you don’t want to carry your phone or wallet.
For more information, see our blog on how to pay with passive payment wearables.
You can use your Astari wearable anywhere that accepts contactless payments, including most stores, restaurants, and public transport.
If you link your payment cards through the Curve app, you can even make payments with credit cards in places that usually only accept debit cards. For a full list of supported locations and tips, visit our blog on how to pay with passive payment wearables.
Yes, your Astari wearable works internationally, just like a regular contactless card.
As long as the payment terminal supports contactless (look for the contactless symbol), you can use your wearable to pay in other countries, whether you’re shopping, dining, or using public transport.
The currency conversion is handled by your linked card provider or by Curve if you’re using the app. This means you’ll be subject to the same exchange rates and fees you’d normally encounter when using your physical card abroad.
If you’re using Curve, you may also benefit from lower or no foreign transaction fees depending on your Curve plan. You can check and manage your spending directly in the app while traveling.
Security and Safety Questions
Yes, all Astari wearables are certified by Mastercard and meet the highest international security standards for contactless payments.
Your payment credentials are stored in the form of a secure, encrypted token — similar to those used by mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay. No personal information (like your name or card number) is visible during a transaction, ensuring your privacy is always protected.
Astari wearables function just like a contactless debit card. They follow the same spending limits as the connected payment card — and for transactions above this limit, you’ll be prompted to enter your PIN. If needed, you can temporarily lock or disable your wearable at any time using the app.
This makes Astari wearables a safe, reliable, and private way to make payments — without needing your phone, wallet, or charger.
Yes, if your wearable is lost or stolen, you can block it immediately through the Manage Mii app or via your account settings. This prevents any unauthorized transactions from occurring.
You can use this feature to temporarily block your wearable if you think you might find it soon, or to permanently block it if you’re sure it’s lost and need to secure your funds right away. The block can be lifted at any time if you recover the wearable.
No, tracking is not possible because Astari wearables use passive NFC technology, which enhances security by not emitting any signals. This prevents potential privacy risks and makes the wearable safer against scams.
However, if you lose your wearable, you can:
1. Block it immediately via the Manage Mii app to prevent unauthorized use.
2. Reorder a new one if necessary.

No, Astari wearables use passive NFC technology, which means they do not emit any radiation or electromagnetic waves. This makes them much safer compared to other wearables like smartwatches or wireless earphones that continuously emit signals.
Because they are passive, the wearables only interact with an NFC reader at very close range and only during payments. This ensures that wearing an Astari device is completely safe for your health.
For a detailed explanation of how our NFC technology works, see our blog on NFC and RFID in passive payment wearables.
Curve Wallet Related Questions
Curve is a digital wallet app that lets you link multiple bank cards — including Visa, Mastercard, Discover to a single smart card. You can then connect that Curve card to your Astari wearable.
You’ll need Curve if your bank is not directly supported by Astari. While we have direct integrations with several EU banks (listed here), Curve acts as a simple and secure workaround for any card that isn’t (yet) natively compatible.
In addition to compatibility, Curve offers a range of extra features:
- “Go Back in Time”: move a payment to a different card after it’s been made
- Smart rules: choose which card to use based on the type of transaction
- Cashback at selected retailers
- Low foreign exchange fees when paying abroad
- Real-time spending notifications
So, if your bank isn’t listed on our supported banks page — or if you just want more flexibility and control over your payments — using Curve with your Astari wearable is the easiest way to get started.
To learn more, check out our blog: How to use Curve with Astari.
To get started, download the Curve app on iOS or Android and create your account. Once activated, you can begin adding your debit and credit cards to your digital Curve Wallet.
With the free Curve membership, you can link up to three cards. When you then connect your Curve card to your Astari wearable, Curve acts as a smart interface between your wearable and all your linked cards — giving you added flexibility and control.
Here’s what you can do with Curve:
- Choose a default card for everyday payments
- Use “Go Back in Time” to move a transaction to a different card after payment
- Set Smart Rules to route payments automatically (e.g., groceries to Card A, travel to Card B)
- Earn cashback from Curve on top of any rewards from your original cards

Curve Terms and Conditions: For more details, visit the Curve website.
If you already have a Curve card, your new Astari wearable will work exactly the same way as your Curve card.
Note: This does not include Samsung Pay cards provided by Curve, which are currently not compatible with Astari wearables. Here is how to resolve this
You can add most Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, and Discover debit or credit cards to your Curve Wallet — whether they’re physical or virtual.
However, there are a few important details to keep in mind:
- Your first card must be issued in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA).
- Once you’ve received and activated your Curve card, you can add cards from outside the EEA — but be aware that fees may apply when setting up or using non-EEA cards for transactions.
For the most up-to-date information on supported cards and any applicable international fees, visit the Curve international card fees page here.
Yes, that’s one of Curve’s biggest advantages. Using the free Curve app, you can link multiple debit and credit cards and manage them all from one place. Here’s how it works:
- Select a Default Card
Choose which card you want Curve to use for day-to-day payments. - Switch Cards Anytime
Need to use a different card for a purchase? Just select it in the Curve app before you pay. If you forget, you can even move the payment to another card afterward using the Go Back in Time feature. - Set Up Smart Rules
Automate your spending by creating rules based on transaction type or amount. For example:
– Grocery payments → Card A
– Payments over €200 → Card B
This flexibility ensures you have full control over your spending. For more details, visit our blog on how to use Curve with Astari wearables.
No, a virtual Curve card is enough to use your Astari wearable.
You do not need to wait for or activate a physical Curve card unless you want one for other uses — your wearable will work perfectly with the virtual version.
Unfortunately, no — Samsung Pay virtual cards issued by Curve are not compatible with Astari wearables due to current tokenization restrictions.
If you’ve used Samsung Pay in the past, the Curve app may automatically issue you a Samsung Pay-specific virtual card during setup. This version of the card cannot be tokenized onto an Astari wearable and won’t work for contactless payments through the ring or bracelet.
To receive a regular (compatible) Curve card, follow these steps:
- Open the Curve app and go to Account Settings.
- Scroll down and choose Delete Account.
- Confirm the deletion and restart the signup process.
- This time, Curve will issue a standard card that can be linked to your Astari wearable.

Warranty
All Astari products come with a minimum 2-year warranty starting from the purchase date. To ensure the reliability and durability of our wearables, each product undergoes a series of rigorous tests before reaching you. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and guarantees that your wearable will function as intended.
The 2-year warranty covers any manufacturing defects and ensures that your Astari product will function properly during this period. However, the warranty does not cover:
• Normal wear and tear, such as scratches or discoloration of non-metallic bracelets, watch straps, or other leather components.
• Loss or theft of the product.
• Damage caused by improper use, such as exposure to harsh chemicals or physical impacts outside of normal use.
